# Disconnect the battery. You don't want to pop the airbag accidentally. They are expensive, and if you are sitting in front of it when it goes off it will hurt. # Remove the four Torx screws holding the airbag to the wheel hub. # Lift off the airbag. Be careful not to stretch springs and wires. # Disconnect the airbag and horn connectors. # Pry the circlip off the steering shaft. # Unscrew the big nut. # Use a steering wheel puller to get the wheel off. Remember the position, it's important. # Use a lockplate removal tool to depress the lockplate. # Pry off the lockring.

I had the same problem in my '97 Lumina. There is an actuator switch in the steering column that was bad. I was going to replace it myself but the covers for the steering column required that the steering wheel be removed and I didn't have the tools so I had to take it to the garage and have them replace the actuator. Hope this isn't too late to help
Its a tough job that requires special tools. Remove the air bag. Remove the steering with a steering wheel puller. Remove the air bag position sensor. The steering wheel lock plate needs to be removed with a steering wheel lock plate puller. Then the turn signal switch can be removed by snaking the wire harness through the steering column. Not as easy as it sounds.
You will have to pull the steering wheel off to get to the switch, after the wheel is off take top cover off steering column and you will see how the switch bolts in.
your flasher is bad replace it It's probably the turn signal signal switch in the steering wheel hub. They're junk from the factory.
I was under the impression the switch was on the steering column about 18 inches from the floor. The lock assy is under the steering wheel.
