To replace the hazard switch in a 2002 Audi A6, first, disconnect the negative battery terminal to ensure safety. Then, carefully remove the trim surrounding the center console, which may involve undoing screws or clips. Once the trim is off, locate the hazard switch and unplug the electrical connector before removing the switch itself. Install the new switch by reversing the steps, ensuring it clicks into place, and reconnect the battery.

My research to date finds that the turn signals and hazard signals are controlled by a common relay. That relay is behind the hazard relay switch. My 2002 Audi A6 has the same symptoms you describe, and I will be removing the hazard switch to get at the relay for replacement. Good luck.
