with a scan tool on some cars you can disconnect the battery a few minutes and the computer resets
Upon further invesigation I withdraw my answer (below). Apparently 1996 and newer cars have and OBD2 Computer, which means you have to pay a lot more to get the code. Sorry if I threw anybody off prevously.
[The easiest way I have found is to turn the ignition on and off three times (on, off, on, off, on). When you do this, the check engine light will flash the trouble code (ie. blink-blink-blink..pause..blink-blink = 32). If you have a repair manual, the codes should be listed in there. I have done this with every car I've owned it's way cheaper than spending the money on a scan tool that will tell you the same thing.]
How do you reset check engine light for the 2009 Chevy trail blazer?
I had a check engin light on for years on my 99 tracker the mechanics couldn't find the problem, I bought a new gas cap (3 dollars ) it turned off and hasn't turned on since, its been four years.
An auto parts store can reset it for you.
There are pages and pages of things that can cause a check engine light. You need to have it checked with a scantool. Then the code can be diagnosed and repaired.
on the driver side by the front speaker up underneath is a switch that turns off the check engine light.
You can either bring it in to a Chevy dealer or use a programmer/tuner to reset the check engine light.
to prevent check engine light from coming on again, you must use an oem sensor. universal sensors will not work.
If the check engine light is blinking that means an engine cylinder misfire has been detected
Check
The check engine light (service engine soon) comes on and stays on when a problem is detected by the self diagnosis system of your vehicle.

It requires an engine scanner to do that.
