draper specialist tools sell a service light resetter which plugs into the computer connector sited under the coin holder in the centre console. It has a 16 pin connector and and resetting is done by the press of a switch ! try draper.com or eBay and look for the Volvo service tool. (it does other models too) retail price is 50 pounds sterling

My 850GLT has on board diagnostics, on LHS next to washer fluid filler, I was shown by the garage ........
Switch on ignition, insert fly lead into socket 7 of diagnostic module, then press the button firmly four times. When the LED stays on you are ready to program.
Enter code 1 5 1 by pressing once and releasing then wait for the LED to light, then press button 5 times and wait for the LED to light again. Press the button once.
Programming is done when the led flashes several times in succession, switch off ignition and remove lead from diag unit. Switch ignition back on and start engine. Light should be off. repeat if not successful.
If instrument panel is by Yazaki - reset is manual on the dash.
Please note that the Check Engine Light is not the same thing as the service light, and the above routine will not reset it.
