Depends on the reason why it is on.
It could be as simple as cleaning the ABS sensors in your wheels. This is most likely if the light is off when you start the car and comes on after driving for a little bit with braking. You may have to get the senors replaced if it is defective. ABS light will turn off on its own if this is your problem and you fix it. This is your cheapest problem and solution.
However, if the light remains on all the time, your ABS control module is probably faulty, and you'll need to replace it, and that's pretty expensive component.
Only a BMW dealer (or someone equipped with the proper diagnostics tool) can diagnose ABS-module related problems. You cannot turn off a ABS light with a OBD/II scanner tool.
abs/dsc light.
No the E30 BMW 3-Series do not have ABS. ABS was made standard on the later E36 models in April 1992.
how do I reset tne brake pad sensor light on a 1997 BMW 318i
The neighbors I am working on does have an ABS light that is on. So I am assuming yes. But double-check your model. Reason I am working on his is due to the pulsating grabbing the brake pads have on the rotors when applying the brakes. Also another reason the ABS light may be on is due to the warped rotors are fowling what the ABS should be doing.
Bring to a shop that has an ABS scanner to determine the problem its a sensor whats broken. cost you about £25 from euro car parts or £100s from BMW
You must have BMW specific software in order to clear any ABS codes. If you have an ABS light on, you need to have the car diagnosed using BMW software such as INPA,Carsoft,a GT1 or other type. Once you have an ABS light showing, it will remain on as long as the faul is present. If the fault condition no longer exists, it will clear itself but store the fault in memory. Sadly, you need repairs.
switch off
If you are trying to turn out the light, taking the ABS fuse out will not turn it off as it's a fail-safe light and will come on if power is lost to the ABS system or there is a fault with it. Only way is to take the actual bulb out.
The ABS and Brake lights stay on when the Abs computer has detected a malfunction and set a trouble code. You need to have the system checked for codes
the engine is going out. sell the car
It could be your Brake Light Switch. My 2001 E430 wouldn't go into gear from parking and the ABS ASR light was lit. The switch cost about $24.00. It is located behind your brake pedal.
First think to check would the be the ABS sensors for damage or corroded wires, and the pulse wheels next to them for rust and corrosion buildup.
