If your Mk3 Golf GTI is over-revving when you shift gears but not accelerating, it could indicate a few issues. One possibility is that the clutch is slipping, which prevents the engine's power from effectively transferring to the wheels. Another potential cause could be a problem with the throttle position sensor or fuel delivery system, affecting engine performance. It’s advisable to check the clutch condition and inspect for any vacuum leaks or issues with the fuel system.
if by "passing gear" you mean, when you put your foot down to pass, the transmission goes down a gear, then it is not actually slipping. it just means it is trying to go back into top gear. sounds like you need to back off a little and learn how your car operates correctly by passing gear, do you mean the transmission goes back a gear when you put your foot flat to the floor? if so your transmission is not slipping, but trying to go into correct gear for the speed you are travelling.try not flooring it and let the transmission do its job. PS: "D" on shift slector does NOT mean DRAG race. it means drive

Make the horse trot by jogging alongside it while leading it. If the horse is lame, it will look as though it is limping. You can tell where it comes from by watching the horse's feet and head. If, when he puts one front foot down and his head goes up, it means he is lame in that foot. If the same happens with a hind foot and his head goes down, he is lame in that hind foot.
Check the transmission fluid level.
the air conditioner kicking on and off will do it too/;p
you would call it a normal fault because the hanging wall goes down and the foot wall goes up and over the hanging wall.
