The same thing happened to my 84 300SD. I removed the instrument cluster to expose the ignition switch tumbler housing. I tapped the housing with a hammer while twisting the key in the ignition. When it finally popped loose, I removed the tumbler and ordered a new housing from Performance Products. The old units fail quite often, unfortunately.
