Code P2187 is explained as " System too lean at idle, bank 1". Directly from OBD II Techbook. Meaning, there is too much air or not enough fuel in the air/fuel mixture. There are a few things that this could be. You need to see how your car is acting at this time when that check engine light comes on and gives the P2187 code. Probably stuttering and/or stalling. I've seen something as simple as a faulty o-ring in a gas cap cause this code. Aftermarket and locking gas caps sometimes don't work well with Volvo's. Other causes could be bad fuel pressure regulator. You need to find out what the fuel pressure should be when engine is running and at idle. And the pressure when key is on and engine is off. Then test your fuel pressure. Also, possible sticking idle air control valve can cause this code. Even clogged fuel filter will give that code. Good luck.
