The service interval for a 2008 BMW 520d typically follows the BMW Condition Based Service (CBS) system, which recommends oil changes every 15,000 kilometers (about 9,300 miles) or once a year, whichever comes first. Other maintenance tasks, such as brake fluid changes, air filter replacements, and inspection services, may vary but generally occur every two years or based on mileage. Always refer to the owner's manual for specific recommendations tailored to your vehicle's usage and condition.

Normaly you don't change the timing chain on bmw 520d model 2008 it supposed to last for life but the 520d model 2008 it's prone to a timing chain failure ( Design fault from Bmw ) which bmw want recognise that ! But there is a lot of people was affected ! 4% of those cars are affected . If you heard any strange noise like rattle or ticking noise coming from the back of the engine , go and check it at a Bmw Dealer , make sure to have a warranty because if it fail it cost to repaire it almost 4000£ and if it snaped you will need probably a new engine or second hand one ! Most of N47 engine from 2007 to 2011 are affected ! more info google N47 timing chain failure.
Dependent on which year the car is produced, but on the newer diesel car's from BMW the service interval is approximately 30 000 km, but it can change depending on your style of driving the car. The speedometer/odometer gives you information about when and what you should service.
If i remember right the BMW diesels have cam chain.
The BMW 520d M Sport typically uses BMW's Longlife-04 engine oil, which is a synthetic oil designed to meet the vehicle's specific performance requirements. It's recommended to change the oil and filter every 10,000 to 15,000 miles or annually, depending on driving conditions and habits. Regular check-ups and adhering to the vehicle's service indicator will help ensure optimal performance. Always consult the owner’s manual for the most accurate recommendations.
Not true.
The 2007 BMW 520d is not considered a Life Cycle Improvement (LCI) model. The LCI for the BMW 5 Series (E60) occurred in 2010, which included updates to the exterior design and enhancements to the interior and technology. Therefore, the 2007 model predates these updates and is part of the pre-LCI generation.
