A ticking sound at idle in your Astra Mk5 could be caused by several factors, including a loose or worn timing belt, issues with the valvetrain, or even a failing lifter. It might also originate from the exhaust system, such as a leak or a heat shield vibration. It’s advisable to have the vehicle inspected by a mechanic to accurately diagnose and resolve the issue to prevent further damage.
That slight ticking sound is probably the injectors firing which is normal.
Ticking on acceleration is usually the ignition timing, get it tuned..
loose rocker arm[s]
yes
My 2006 TT-R has a slight ticking noise. BTW the bike is almost brand new, almost 10 hours on it.
theres a idle control on the trottle body. theres two 10mm bolts to loosen and move the cable to idle higher. then tighten the bolts..... do this with the engine running.
The I in idle is a long I vowel sound, and the -le has a schwa sound (eyed-ul).
Possibly just an adjustment on the rockers. Hydraulic system. Hopefully that's it.
Valves probably need adjusting. This is a maintence item that needs to be done every 36,000 miles.
Put more oil in if its not full already, other wise it will tick until the oil has fully gone through the system. Does it tick during idle or all the time? Other wise why are you just bothered about the idle time ticking? Especially if its only for a few mins.
To adjust the engine idle speed on a Vauxhall Astra diesel, first, ensure the engine is at normal operating temperature. Locate the idle speed adjustment screw, usually found on the throttle body or near the injection pump, depending on the engine model. Carefully turn the screw clockwise to increase the idle speed or counterclockwise to decrease it, checking the RPM with a tachometer as you make adjustments. After adjustments, always ensure the idle speed is within the manufacturer's specified range for optimal performance.
It may be that your values need some adjustment. You may first want to try a higher viscosity oil to see if that helps.
