Under the car on the upper side of the transmission. There you will find a plug. Remove it. If fluid comes out you are full. If you stick you finger in the hole and can feel fluid, you are fine. If not, add the proper lube as outlined in your owner's manual.

What kind of transmission fluid does a 2.0 96 Jetta use?

The 1996 Volkswagen Jetta with a 2.0L engine typically uses VW G 052 162 A2 transmission fluid for its automatic transmission. It's essential to check the owner's manual for specific requirements or consult a professional, as using the correct fluid is crucial for optimal transmission performance and longevity. For manual transmissions, a different fluid may be recommended, often a 75W-90 gear oil.

For a 2004 VW Jetta, you should use VW-specification transmission fluid, specifically the VW G 052 162 A2 or G 052 516 A2 for automatic transmissions. If your Jetta has a manual transmission, it typically requires a high-quality synthetic gear oil like 75W-90 that meets the VW specification.
