Did you ever find out how to change the air filter on a scenic. Been trying to get the air box off for about 2 hrs now :-(
i do mine every 11-15 thousand km
Try replacing the pollen filter, that will cure the problem.

on the 54 scenic i have just done it is behind the the battery. you have to take the panel above it off. it is vertical,so you are only seeing the end of it. its held in with two screws. it was a 19 diesel model
The cabin filter behind the passenger glove box needs to be taken out and cleaned or replaced.
