Your oil pump on this vehical ..... taking its a 5.7 L or a 5.0 L is inside the oil pan to the back of the engine there will be a tube and a screen atached to reach the oil in the oil pan . it is possible to change with the engine in the car . it will be good to use a engine hoist cause using a jack will damage the engine expecialy if jacked from the crankshat .. but take plenty of time on reasembly cause the instalation of the gaskets properly is extreamly important , cause a big leak at the pan is a quick way to lose the oil in the engine fast !! but if your engine is knocking it will be in your best intrest to pull the engine and inspect the damage cause to be honest the small black Chevy is a very cheap to rebuild with quality parts
good luck and i hope this helps you

the oil pump if it's a350 is inside the oil pan and you have to drop the pan to access it
The oil pump is located inside the oil pan at the rear of the engine. So, to replace the oil pump, one must remove the oil pan. This will require that the engine be lifted at least 4", if not pulled completely out of the engine bay.
