On a 1983 porsche 911 sc the oxygen sensor is located on the left side of the car, right before the catalytic converter.
Tip: Removing the rear left wheel will make it much easyer to access.
check to see if your tack is not jumping it could be a bad ref sensor

1983 doesnt have a crankshaft position sensor. you have an ignition module located on the side of the distributor.
Disconnect it. If it runs the same or better, have it rebuilt $200 from Python Injection, out of California. Borrowing another one would be best.

it is in the exhaust pipe. The neutral safety switch stops you from starting a car unless it is in neutral or park so can not be located in the exhaust pipe. You maybe thinking of the oxygen sensor...
I have the same car and had the same issue. the SOND light is your oxygen sensor.
if you look on the rear of the motor from the top where the clutch cover meets the block look down between the brake master and intake it has two wires on top and looks like part of the clutch cover but its not very hard to unbolt 6mm Allen head bolts
