There is not transmission dipstick on the 2001 Land Rover Discovery.
It is located on the passenger side near the radiator with 3 coolant hoses going to it. It is plastic and looks like a heart valve. The thermostat is inside and is one piece and cannot be taken apart.
It schould be on the passenger side of the vehicle, right behind the radiator in a plastic egg shaped thing, in line with the radiator hose.
