This is a rear wheel drive car, so the transmission is driving the rear wheels through a drive shaft and rear differential. It is connected to the engine and runs along the length of the car in the middle. It is underneath the front part of the center console, where the shift lever comes into the car.
On a 97 528i the speed sensor is located on the transmission tail shaft housing at the top.
on the left (driver) side of the engine under the transmission fluid reservoir
The oil dipstick on a 1997 BMW 528i is located on the left side of the engine. It has a tube which connects to the engine block and directs the dipstick into the bottom of the oil pan.
The Vehicle Speed Sensor will be on top of the transmission, at the transmission output. Wheel Speed Sensors will be located at each wheel.... the latter are for ABS.
The transmission dipstick in a 98 BMW 528i is on the driver's side of the transmission pan. Make sure you are parked in a level spot before you check it.

The transmission control module (TCM) on a BMW 528i is typically located within the transmission housing or nearby, depending on the specific model year. It may be found mounted on the side of the transmission or integrated into the transmission assembly itself. Accessing it usually requires removing certain components, including the transmission pan, to reach the module. Always consult the vehicle's service manual for precise location and removal instructions for your specific model year.
removing the thermostat on a 1997 BMW 528i series will be simple. First the fan will need to be taken off, then the cowl covering will need to be removed. After these parts are removed, the thermostat is in plain view. The hoses on the thermostat do not need to be removed on this car. The thermostat will removed by taking the two bolts off.
