On my 1983 Mercedes 380 SEC I had a similar problem. I removed the Idle Control Valve, soaked it in propanol to clean out the carbon buildup. Then sprayed thoroughly with penetrating oil & reinstalled. Problem solved! Or a new ICV can be purchased for >$200, I would try cleaning it first
