What would cause a 1988 Mercedes 300TE to lose power or stall when decelerating?

On my 1983 Mercedes 380 SEC I had a similar problem. I removed the Idle Control Valve, soaked it in propanol to clean out the carbon buildup. Then sprayed thoroughly with penetrating oil & reinstalled. Problem solved! Or a new ICV can be purchased for >$200, I would try cleaning it first

I would say both because they are both luxurious. If you want power, go for Mercedes, and if you want fuel-efficiency, I think Jaguar but Mercedes is better. Mercedes is nice, have more power, luxurious and has an agressive styling.

Check the power steering pump for the cause of the noise. I sounds like the pump is causing the whining and is either low on fluid or possibly going bad.

I was a Mercedes mechanic. My 1998 E320 wagon has a combined hydraulic fluid resivoir for the automatic load leveling and power steering. I buy the fluid from a dealer.
