Truck door will not unlock all the way orr open how do i get it to open?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

If your truck door is stuck and will not unlock or open fully, here are some steps you can try to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:

Check the Locking Mechanism: Ensure that the door is not stuck in the locked position. Attempt to unlock the door using the key fob or the key itself, depending on your vehicle. If it's an electronic lock, make sure the battery in the key fob is not dead.

Manually Unlock the Door: If the electronic locking system is not working, try manually unlocking the door with the key. Insert the key into the door lock and turn it in the appropriate direction to unlock it.

Examine the Door Handle: Inspect the door handle to ensure it's not damaged or loose. If it's damaged, it may need to be replaced. If it's loose, tighten any screws or bolts that secure it to the door.

Check for Obstructions: Look for any obstructions that might be preventing the door from opening. This could include debris, ice, or snow that has accumulated around the door frame. Clear any obstructions you find.

Lubricate the Lock and Hinges: Apply a lubricant (such as WD-40) to the door lock and hinges. This can help if the door is sticking due to rust or lack of lubrication.

Try Gentle Force: If the door is only partially open, gently apply some pressure to it while trying to open it. Be careful not to use excessive force, as you don't want to damage the door or its components.

Professional Help: If the door remains stuck, it may be a mechanical or electrical issue within the door itself. In this case, it's best to consult a professional mechanic or a dealership to diagnose and repair the problem.

Emergency Release Cable: Some trucks have an emergency release cable inside the door panel. If the door is completely stuck, you may need to access the cable to release the door. Refer to your vehicle's manual for guidance on locating and using this cable.

Always exercise caution when attempting to fix a stuck truck door, and do not force it open if it feels like it's resisting too much. It's best to seek professional assistance if you're unsure how to proceed or if the problem persists.

How do you remove brake rotors from a 2001 Kia Optima?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

First buy a Haynes or chiltons manual for your year model. This is a good reference to show illustrations of the components.I cannot keep this short with the general work to be done.I suggest loosening the lug nuts prior to jacking the car up.Next raise the car on one side. Then place a jack stand or concrete block to place under the car in a secure location.Once up and secure remove the wheel.Your rear disc brakes have what are called SET screws to secure the rotors to the hub.I recommend lubricating these with some liquid wrench and let sit briefly. These can be super tight and can strip out the head of the screw.I have had to heat these and even drill out and use a chisel to break free.At this point you will remove the slide pin bolts on the caliper 1 is on top and 1 is on the bottom. These should be a 12mm socket.Once the caliper is removed lay it to the side supported on the suspension OR use a bungee cord to keep the Brake line supported or from binding. Now your ready to remove the two(on the size it is either a 16 or 17 mm)socket bolts for the actual holding bracket.Once removed you can tap the rotor with a hammer left to right to break it free if stuck(this is normal).Reinstall install new rotor,I suggest using some permatex anti seize on the 2 Phillips head scews and install and tighten by hand.Next install the holding bracket and tighten the bolts and torque to 41 ft lbs with a torque wrench. Now your ready to do the actual caliper. You have two things to do.Make sure the rubber boots on the caliper are not torn or leaking grease as these may need to be replaced. Also Secondary you need to buy some permatex caliper grease for the slide pins.Coat lightly (VERY LIGHT) and reinstall in the caliper.Next is you have to have a caliper piston tool with a + sign (napa sells these for $12.00) and use's a 3/8 socket entension to go into it.You have to turn the piston clockwise to rotate the piston in until it is FLUSH.Then you can install the caliper over your New brake pad's as they are thicker and the piston has less distance to push the pads.Install the caliper and install the upper/lower slide pin bolts and torque to 17 ft lbs .Once the brake caliper is installed, install the wheel and tighten lug nuts to firm.Jack car up and lower to the point where the wheel touches ground but not completely lowered (so the wheel will not roll) .Then you want to use a torque wrench and torque the lugs to 85 ft lbs (technically Honda says 79) but I use 85 for my spouses 04 accord.I know my version seems complicated but,to do this correctly take's time a a good general mechanical know how.I just yesterday replaced a rear caliper, and both sides rotors, pads, grease slide pins and bleed the brake system in two hours.Cake for me reason I said buy a manual as this walks thru the steps 1-10 for example.I know I wrote a lot but this is as simple as I could make replacing rotors,as if your doing new rotors new pads and adjacent parts may need to be serviced and replaced in addition to the general work.

How do you change clock on 1997 Tacoma?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

If the clock is dead it is likely 1 of 2 culprits; the fuse or the clock itself. If it is not a fuse (check the 15A cig fuse near the left side of the steering wheel) it is generally a problem with the clock itself. Typically bad internal connections I offer a repair service; please check my bio page for the website and details. I have directions on how to remove the clock etc as well. Drop me a note if you have any problems, thanks!

On a '01 Pontiac Grand Prix GT why would the ignition not turn all the way off so you can't take the key out?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

There is a solenoid & plunger next to the ignition switch inside the steering column that stops functioning. The plunger must be retracted in order for the switch to turn all the way so the key can be removed. I manually inserted the plunger and took out the key.

This part failed in my 2001 Grand Prix GT as well about a year ago. My local mechanic explained the part and what it does to me and recommended to just remove it and not reinstall a new one.

As it was explained to me, this interlock makes sure that the car is in PARK before allowing key removal. Note that without it, the ingnition can be switched off and the key can be removed while the car is moving (a dirty trick, which will lock the steering wheel). Also, without it, you might accidentally shut the car off and remove the key while parking without actually putting it in PARK.

Probably a nice interlock to have.

OR - You have the vehicle in gear. Shift to park and remove.

I thought the solenoid/plunger was the problem with our 01 Grand Prix GT as well (couldn't remove key and the steering wheel didn't lock) but the GM service shop told me the problem was the solenoid(?) at the base of the shift lever on the center console. Required replacement of the entire shift lever assembly as can't replace the solenoid part only. Total bill was $821.67 parts & labor. Bit of a shocker! Am wondering if I was taken!?

Let me put my 2 cents in, I have been dealing with the same problem for about 2 years. My work around is to tilt the sterring wheel up and reach under the column and press up on the solenoid while I turn the key out of the lock. A lot cheaoer than a repair.

~

Session09 Adds:

I just had to deal with a somewhat similar situation. I have an '03 GTP, coming home from work when I would go to use my directional the engine would shut down, every freaking light on the dash would begin to flash like a bad Las Vegas sign. The key wouldn't come out as well.

I got the car home and started checking the harnes for breaks. Everything was fine, good continuity on all the wires (combination switch, ignition switch, series II and leads to keyed tumbler). After doing some reading and talking with a fantastic non-GM mechanic I replaced the ignition switch itself.

Everything previously mentioned goes through the ignition switch and reports to the security system and, as far as my experience goes, grabs your key and holds it. Also, the book says you don't have to have power on to reset the ignition tumblers - BALOGNEY! If the battery isn't connected, the ignition won't cycle properly allowing the tumblers to seat correctly and the plunger to release your key! $94.00 cost for the new ignition switch purchased at an aftermarket parts shop. :)

How often do you need to change your clow plugs in a diesel engine?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

The best answer is to follow the recommendations for maintenance in your particular car's owner's manual. A rule of thumb is every 30,000 miles for standard plugs and 60,000 for platinum or other precious metal plugs.

Don't forget the ignition system's secondary wiring. Worn plugs and damaged wires can cause ignition coils and other ignition components to fail prematurely.

How do i turn off the airbag light on a 1998 Acura CL 3.0?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

In general, you turn off an air bag light by fixing the problem that it is warning you about. The air bags are there to protect you in an accident. If they are not working, you need to fix them. Consult a trained and qualified mechanic. If this is a case where there is a passenger side air bag disable switch, there may be a key on the dash that you need to turn. It may be possible that the passenger side seat weight sensor is bad.

How to tell if head gasket blown?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

It really depends on how bad the problem is. If the problem is a small leak in the head gasket or head, then the engine will start and may even run ok for a little bit before it starts overheating. If the leak is bad enough a good deal of antifreeze might be inside the engine and starting it could result in severe damage (this is called hydrolock), and you will likely need another engine if this happens. No matter if you can start it or not, it is strongly recommended that you minimize any driving in it and get it fixed as soon as possible.

How to change the radio in a 2002 Toyota Tacoma?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

You have to remove the front right tire, and go up through the inside of the fender. A lot of work just to remove an antenna! I just did this on my 1999 Montero Sport. Once you remove the back of the fender, you just remove a few nuts from the antenna mount, unplug the power supply, unplug the antenna from the radio and pull the antenna cable out. You can save some time with a short screw driver and don't remove the tire, just the bottom of the fender (and flares). For mounting purposes is best if you use the original part. Before you remove the cable from the inside (if the antenna is not good) cut the cable and use it to pull the new antenna's one. Trust me the hardest part is getting that cable in. Need lots of patience and about 2 hours.. Check out this site for step by step instructions....with pictures....to replace your electric antenna..... http://www.monterosportonline.com/diy-ext6.html
