My megane scenic was doing this and then suddenly yesterday the whole car started to judder badly as i was driving and when I revved the car black smoke came from the exhaust. AA man came out and said one of the coils had dropped and that was a common fault on the car. Now its corrected the car is really smooth again, gears go in no probs and revs are coming down straight away.
Every time you engage the clutch, the clutch disengages from the transmission/engine. Which in term engine revs up, until you disengage the clutch.
When mowing it will idle up and down because of the amount and thickness of grass you are cutting. This is because the blades will struggle cutting thick grass so the engine needs more revs to keep the blades running at a constant speed and that is also why your mower may slow down because it has used the majority of revs to cut the grass and their are not many revs left to keep the wheels spinning The up and down revving could also be caused by a dirty/clogged air filter.
Check your radiator is full
check for vaccum leaks.
