Oil mixing into the coolant of your Volvo 850 typically indicates a head gasket failure, which allows oil and coolant to mix due to a breach in the gasket. It could also be caused by a cracked engine block or a damaged cylinder head. This issue can lead to severe engine damage if not addressed promptly, so it’s essential to have your vehicle inspected and repaired by a qualified mechanic. Regular maintenance can help prevent such problems from arising.
Probably a blown head gasket.
Any 10W-30 oil meeting the API-SM specification is recommended for the 1995 Volvo 850.

10W30 if you get winter. If you dont get winter then 10W40.
The recommended oil grade is 10W/30.
Use only the weight recommended by Volvo and I doubt that they recommend 10w40.

10w30 is recomended.
5.5 quarts of oil meaning 5 1/2 bottles of oil.
Oil mixing with coolant? Coolant mixing with oil? Low compression on 2 adjacent cylinders? White smoke from exhaust when engine is hot?
Are you sure it is not transmission fluid? Oil in the coolant would indicate a bad head gasket
