I had a similar problem with my V6 04 Passat,

I took it to a very good VW shop near me,, surprisingly I had thought of this but was actually surprised that it was true.

The synthetic oil does not cling well to the cylinder walls when the car sits and with cold weather it causes the problem to become more relevant. Thermal expansion contraction in metals etc.

All that the mechanic did was put a little oil in each cylinder and it started right up ,,

It requires high compression to start, He told me that this is a very common problem in cold weather when the car sits for a week,

In Europe they put a engine warmer in the engine to keep the engine from getting too cold when not driving the cars for a prolonged period of time
