Why would the engine of a VW 1974 Beetle keep running slowly after turning off the ignition key even though there is no current in the coils?
This condition is usually caused by high idle. Correct idle should be around 750-800 rpm. Also the idle solenoid could either be stuck or voltage is present(to the soleniod) when the ignition is off. Those carburetors are real touchy as they have more than one adjustment air screw. IVE SEEN EXCESSIVE CARBON IN COMBUSTION CHAMBER "GLOW",CAUSING ENGINE TO RUN ON,EVEN AFTER YANKING (ZAAPPP!)THE COIL WIRE.
