Through the use of interval cardio exercise, agility and speed exercises can improve your heart health and body composition (burn fat).

Use your cardio exercise to burn fat and improve your heart health. Twenty minutes per session is enough to get the job done and not waste away your fat burning muscle mass.

Here are some cardio tips to burn fat:

a. Traditional long, slow lower-intensity aerobic exercise on treadmills, bikes, ellipticals, etc. is good for beginners or those who have been inactive.

b. Research has proven that the benefits of anaerobic exercise (like sprint interval cardio) are superior to aerobic exercise for fitness and heart health. The progression of your cardio exercise should be low-intensity aerobics to moderate/high-intensity aerobics to high-intensity anaerobic exercise.

c. High intensity interval cardio training (HIIT) will give you faster body fat burn in less time. Speed and agility exercises (like shuttles or cone drills) work well here.

HIIT will:

--significantly boost your metabolism--during and after exercise,

--give you less muscle mass loss,

--give you a faster rate of body fat-to-energy conversion and

--significantly increase your VO2 Max capacity.

Sprint Intervals work like this:

--Sprint 50 yards

--Walk back to start line

--Sprint 50 yards

--Do this rotation for 20 minutes

d. If HIIT is too hard on your body, you might want to try a HIIT and moderate intensity combination during the week. Just get to know your body so you know when to back off.
