To make a dog be trained to follow you , you should call it's name and hold a treat by you and train him/her that if he/she follows you , he/she will get a treat it may take a while but once you get it. it will be worth it

Well to start off you need to know when to feed your hound. This is really common sense. If your dog hunts at night then feed it in the morning. If you feed them at night then why would it hunt. The whole purpose for hunting is to find food. Now that you got this down get to know your dog and play with them as puppies. Then before I even show them anything to do with a coon I get them to sit, stay or come on command. Coon hounds are smart animals and the work by pressure and release. For instance if you have a dog that will not sit, what I do is grab up under their front paw and pinch. This is a pressure point and the dog does not like it. As soon as the dog does what you want him to do release the pressure and praise him for doing the right thing. Now after you get them to obey you your on a good start to getting the job done. When they are young from 2-5 months old start them by just giving them an old coon skin to play with. When they mature a little around 4-7 months show them a caged coon once or twice and let them get interested in it but DO NOT LET IT OUT. I cant stress this enough. If a young pup gets into a bad tussle with a coon it will ruin the dog. Very rarely will the dog be worth anything after that. When you feel that your dog is getting big enough to handle the coon usually around 6 months that's when you can let the dog chase it off. Make sure you don't use a caged coon too often because they will get used to seeing it before they run them. You want them to work off of scent as well. The best thing you can do is run your pup with good older dogs. Make sure they are dogs that do not fight at the tree or anything. You have to have your pup out AT LEAST three nights a week for them to catch on. But trust me if you pour the time into your hound you will see amazing results.
