You climb a total of 173 steps. 74 and then 99. It is SO worth it!
However, here are a few suggestions to make it easier--if you are not already in shape, even though I have seen some seriously out of shape people and pregnant women do it.
---If it's a warm day, be sure to hydrate yourself. It's a serious hike.
---If you have time to get in shape before you make the journey, practice climbing some steps in your house or at a stadium or any building that permits it, building up your strength for a stretch of at least 100 steps. (I practiced going up and down the 15 steps in my son's apartment--every time we went anywhere, I had to do those steps to get into or out of his apartment, since the whole apartment is upstairs, only the front door is on the ground floor.) The first time I focused on repetitions, I did five up/down back-to-back (75 steps)and was wiped out. The next day I did seven (105 steps up). I'm a 60- year-old grandma who has been recovering from 2 MVAs and and tripping over a cart in the last 2 years and have not been able to exercise much. I weigh 109 lbs, and I just did those 105 steps before I saw this question.
Have stamina+have water=great hike.
