If I am not mistaken, as there are different systems of measurement, One TROY pound is l2 troy Ounces. the Troy system is used in jewelry and precious metals such as Gold and Silver. The troy ounce is different than the avoirdupois (English) system ounce. 20DWT (alternately pennyweight or deadweight- equals also, one ounce. Both abbreviations are correct, deadweight(empty load) and pennyweight and the former is more popular, D comes from Denarius, ancient Roman coin actually closer to a dime!@ British used D to mean Pence, n ot cents. I believe l2 ounces is a A troy pound, unlike l6 ounces for an avoirdupois pound. While on it the pound sterling is a unit of currency and not weight or measurement.
