The basic physical exam consists of the following plus or minus depending on what your doctor is looking for;
They'll check your blood pressure, pulse, respiratory rate, pupil response, sensation (nerves in hands, face feets etc.), power in your limbs, ability to move your joints, they'll listen to your heart and lungs, maybe feel for enlarged lymph nodes (I always do a basic check but others don't), take bloods [do a complete blood count (CBC), full blood count(FBC) in UK] looking for abnormalities in red blood cells and white blood cells, check bloods for kidney and liver functions and basic checks for infection and inflammation, check reflexes [very misunderstood tests], basic vision test, weight and height, calculate the Body Mass Index [not that useful these days but still routinely done [waist measurement is more diagnositc], do a body systems check [where they ask questions about each body system; i.e. do you have any problems walking up stairs, do you have any problems understanding instructions, do you have any problems with breathing [coughing in morning, coughing when lying down, spitting up blood or sputum], they'll look in your ears/up your nose, external check of body [such as genitals, breasts, soles of feets etc.] and then ask you a bunch of questions (probably start with this actually), take a urine sample also.
