It probably depends on where you heard the term. Here is two meaning of the term. In 2001, Dr Glenn Gaesser wrote an diet and exercise book called "The Spark: The Revolutionary New Plan to Get Fit and Lose Weight-10 Minutes at a Time" In it an exercise spark is a 10 minute segment of exercise. A 10 min aerobic spark should raise your heart rate to 80% of maximum. the program calls for 15 sparks a week, 7 to 8 aerobic sparks and 3 o4 four strength and flexibility sparks.

In 2008, Dr John Ratey wrote "Spark -- The Revolutionary New Science of Exercise and the Brain, which discusses exercise as it effects the brain. I haven't read this book, but from the reviews he doesn't define a specific time period as a "spark."

And now Chris Downe, founder of the website spark people, has written a book titled : "The Spark: The 28-Day Breakthrough Plan for Losing Weight, Getting Fit, and Transforming Your Life" which comes out on Dec 29, 2009.

I just went to the Spark People website to see what they said about the book and they are claiming the 10 minute exercise segment as a Spark. So this book is following up on Gaesser but with a more restrictive diet (your question only concerned exercise but both books include diet).

So it seems the a Spark is a 10 minute exercise segment. You do several segments during the day for a total 2 or 3 sparks daily.
