Even meditators who begin to sit with their eyes open, lowered, and unfocused sometimes eventually and repeatedly experience a black visual field. This may be due to holding the eyeballs motionless or to a closing of the eyelids. It is not something to worry about, and it is not something to value (except, perhaps, as an indication of deep concentration). Not all people who meditate experience it.
