During a 10k fun run, your body primarily relies on the aerobic energy system. Initially, as you sit down to put on your shoes, your body uses stored ATP and creatine phosphate for quick energy. Once you start running, your body shifts to aerobic metabolism, utilizing glycogen and fat stores to sustain energy over the duration of the run. After finishing, your body continues to use aerobic pathways for recovery and replenishing energy stores.

The nerves and neurons that run through the body outside the brain and spinal cord make up the peripheral nervous system. This system transmits signals between the central nervous system and the rest of the body, allowing for sensory input and motor output. The peripheral nervous system includes sensory and motor neurons that control voluntary and involuntary bodily functions.
The human body is a biochemical machine. It uses the chemical energy in food to power the muscles it uses to run. The energy in food, water, and the oxygen in air combine to make the body of the runner work.
