It is not because your lungs cannot handle the exercise. Lungs take in plenty of oxygen to complete most tasks, no matter how strenuous the exercise. The problem is getting that oxygen to the muscles and that is the job of the heart! As we learned previously, blood carries oxygen through the body, but a weak heart with a low stroke volume pumps less blood insufficiently. The body has to have oxygen; because of this your body reacts and causes you to breathe more rapidly and harder in order to receive more oxygen for the cells and muscles. Therefore, some of your classmates breathe more heavily when they run around the track because they have a lower stroke volume and low aerobic capacity. Or they have astma and there throat clogs up and they cannot get enough oxygen in their lungs.
Because they are tired ...
During exercise, your body uses energy. This process requires oxygen. So, if you exercise you pant, or breathe harder, in order for your body to draw in more oxygen.
You pant when you exercise because your body is working hard to take in more oxygen to fuel your muscles. Panting helps increase oxygen intake and remove carbon dioxide, allowing your body to keep up with the demands of the exercise.

Yes. All dogs pant. Dachshunds pant if they get hot or very thirsty.
Dogs do not sweat like people---makes you wonder why they stink. Their only mechanism to cool themselves is to pant. Somehow this cools them.
Panting is how dogs and puppies cool themselves off. They do not sweat, as people do. Some reasons a dog will pant excessively: • The dog is in pain • May have eaten something that's toxic • Chronic illness such as heart failure, Cushing's syndrome, or respiratory disorders • Some medications will cause a dog to pant heavily If your puppy seems to be panting excessively, it's time to have a vet examine him or her.
