Yes, it is fair to say the way you were raised depicts how you grew up!

Both Hume and John Locke believed that ALL human behavior was based on experience; he referred to "Tabula Rasa", roughly meaning "blank slate", meaning that we were all born with a totally blank slate and experience was completely responsible for behavior.

But today we generally acknowledge that an individuals behavior is greatly affected by nature. If one or both of your parents tended toward Alcoholism or drug addiction, you will have a higher probability of suffering from the same condition, EVEN IF YOU ARE ADOPTED AND RAISED IN ANOTHER FAMILY.

Twins raised separately tend to act more like their twin than like their adopted families. ADHD, a brain chemistry imbalance, tends to run in families.

The nature/nurture argument has been going on for decades, and in general, there seems to be a consensus that human behavior seems to be caused by a bit of both.
