I would simply confront him. Ask him, if he tells you that he's not, and you still don't trust his answer, let him know that you're sorry but you're not comfortable. Let him know that you aren't trying to be difficult, but you'd like it if he could do something that could help your insecurities.

Call him if hes gone a lot, check in with him during the day or night regularly. If he talks calmly you should be able to tell if hes telling the truth.
