I believe you just have to be there and listen to the person. At the same time you want to show that you are still their best friend but you want more than that. Being in the best friend place can be a bad thing but also a good thing. personally i see it as a glass half full. The other person trusts you enough to share things that otherwise they would not. Now it is up to you to start showing you are available and interested. If they don't get your hints then maybe just say, hey look i like you. Even if after that the person is not interested, drop it and move on. There is someone out there more worthwhile. Hope it works out!
