nahhhh, what i think is don't just ask him- it may frighten him off if he doesn't. ask yourself- do you catch him with his eyes trained on your every move? this means he is fascinated by you: trying to work out every detail of your personality like what you find funny or things that you hate and also he must think that you are very pretty/ attractive.

also if you are in a circle of friends then his feet with subconsciously point towards who he fancies( unless he is having a 1 to 1 convo with someone). there is also the theory that if you are talking to him and he is stroking his arm or playing with his hair then he is imagining what he wants to do to you!

a guy is into you when he will go out of his way and talk to you, sometimes they will make cheesey jokes or try to do things you like and he will always try to go up and talk to you and ask questions like hey wanna study for science today and stuff like that and once you know that your into him too tell him if not oh well guess he is just a really amazing friend and eh ya good luck ;)

if the boy is a confident boy, someone who you already know as a friend, or someone who is comfortable being around you, if he wants to date you, he'll make it happen. he'll either send a friend, or work up the guts to ask you out himself. but remember, this isn't always the case, he may like you alot and just feel shy around you. try some of the things mentioned below. if hes a shy guy, it might be a little difficult for him to come up to you in person. try to make him more comfortable around you, let him know that you like him as a person, maybe compliment him a few times if youre not comfortable with straightup asking him. but the best thing to do, always, is work up the confidence to ask him out yourself! guys love it when you do that, if they're shy its because they couldn't do it themselves, and if they're confident they love that you're confident too! if youre not comfortable asking him out, then just drop some subtle hints, like compliments and questions that may lead into a compliment for you! example "Do you like my new haircut? I don't know if this shirt is cute, what's your opinion?"
