Homosexual life styles tend to have higher rates of disease transmittance.

Homosexuals are statistically more 'at-risk' for many things, although it is debated whether some or all of these are actually caused by gay marriage.

  • homosexuals, particularly females, have on average lower family incomes.
  • More likely to be homeless.
  • Less likely to be part of stable families.
  • Higher reported rates of spousal abuse.

The issue causes strife and divisions between community, particularly in the religious community. Politicians often use gay marriage as a scapegoat or distraction from other more serious issues. Politicians are elected based on their stance on gay marriage as opposed to their actual qualifications or their ability to be good politicians.

Due to the mixed acceptance of gay marriage, some homosexuals move to places where same-sex marriage is legal, causing some economic inefficiencies.

Some religions cite various religious reasons for gay marriage causing harm.

Another Viewpoint:

Gay marriage does not hurt everyone. In fact, it hurts no one. Gay people are entitled to the same civil rights as everyone else and the demise of the already dwindling opposition to freedom will relieve suffering, not cause it. It is outrageous that a generalization such as "gay people are less likely to be part of stable families" would be used to justify prohibiting gay people from forming stable families. The homelessness of gay youth is the direct result of the instability of the heterosexual families they come from. The alleged lower incomes of lesbian couples only highlights the gender gap in salaries which is more noticeable when both spouses are female. Even if all that is written above were true, that would not justify the denial of basic human rights to a class of people you do not like. If those bullet points were true of another minority group, say Blacks or Latinos, would that be just cause for prohibiting them from marrying? Try proposing that and see what happens.

If gay people move out of a state where the voters have gone out of their way to create a hostile living environment then surely this cannot be cited as a harm caused by gays to the general population. The less civilized states have brought their declining Demographics on themselves. Besides, no such mass exoduses are in effect.

Basic civil rights are an issue of extreme importance. Nationwide marriage equality is inevitable.
