There is often a false concept that so many people
have pertaining to "house" and "field" slaves.

The false concept that people have is one which makes
the inaccurate claim that the lighter-complexioned slaves

(those who were of mulatto-lineage) "had an easier life"
and / or "thought they were better" than the
slaves that
were of a darker-complexion and, even more ridiculous,
that they were allowed to enjoy "some of the comforts"
of the plantation house while the darker-complexioned
slaves endured more difficult hard labor in the fields.

This is all very much an urban myth and is
contradictory to the actual historical records.

The actual historical record shows that, most of the
lighter-complexioned (mulatto-lineage) slaves were,

in reality, viewed as and looked down upon by
the white and other enslavers as being but mere
"mongrels of miscegenation" and also as being
the very easily-replaceable "bastards of rape"
(that were committed by the plantation Overseers).

In addition, most plantation owners (and especially
their wives, mothers, sisters and daughters), due
to fears of appearing
(to their family or the public)
to support 'miscegenation' -- did not want even
the mere resence of the lighter-complexioned

(mulatto-lineage) slaves being acknowledged --
and thus, generally choose to 'banish' most of
them to "the fields
" ('like weeds') and purposefully
reserved most of the "big house" positions
(ex.
mammy, cook, driver, etc.) for the full-Black slaves
(who, being "thorough-bred" were considered 'more
valuable' and also cost a great deal more at auction').
