Is it right to spank children when disciplining?

In man countries hitting children is illegal. Most parents think that as long as they don't physically harm their chils it's okay, but mentally it could harm your child. If it is not harmful then why would they ban it in so many countries?

Never hit a child. Ever. Never yell at a child. Ever. Never shame a child. Ever. Never tell a child that he/she is bad or wrong in any way. Ever. Consider:

• Children do not need punishment, meaning they do not need a disciplinary action that is disconnected from their behavior. The consequences of a child's actions should be the same as the consequences out in the real world. When you do something you should not do, no one attacks you physically, do they? You can learn from the natural consequences of your mistakes, and so can a child. Whenever possible, when the child's health and safety are not at any risk, let the child learn his/her own lessons.
• Children must not learn a morality based on punishment and fear. We want children to choose to be good, because goodness is its own reward, not because of fear of punishment.
• It is psychologically scarring to receive torture at the hands of a trusted protector.
• It is highly unlikely that the parent can administer physical punishment without at least some anger, which means that the parent's judgment is impaired, and the child learns to associate anger with violence. Anger is a healthy emotion. It is made unhealthy by violence.

Never deliberately cause any kind of suffering for a child. Ever.
