Yes, the Chinese did get treated badly, the English and Europeans were mean and cruel to them. Sometimes they would beat the Chinese up and burn there tents down. The English and Europeans didn't like the Chinese because of there religion, hair styles, different looks, different clothes, different dietary habits and different language and lifestyle. People didn't like the Chinese so much the governments had laws put against them like they had to be taxed if they came by ship from the shore or else they would have to come from the north of Australia and travel by foot to the gold fields. It was very unfair back in the 1850s Gold Rush in Ballarat. There was also a lot of stereotyping too.
