I feel well-equipped to answer this as it happened to me yesterday afternoon.
I have been having an affair with a close friend for 14 months. We are stupidly in love and I left my husband last year. His plans were to leave his wife within the next two months as neither of us can stand being apart any longer.
Sadly, yesterday my mobile phone was playing me about and refused to reply to a text he sent me from Spain (holiday). I was so cross, I sent him an email to explain, imagining he would pick it up on his iPhone as usual. He did actually tell me he had received the texts anyway and would call me later that evening.
Within two hours my mobile rang. Thinking it was my letting agent, I answered it immediately despite the blocked number. My blood ran cold when I heard it was HER. She told me she had found the email and all hell broke loose. Over the next few hours she rang me 3 times, told me he was denying my existence and that it was all in my head. I was hurt, angry and miserable to think he would rubbish our relationship that way. When he contacted me, I told him to go to hell. As it turns out, he never said those things and she was hitting me right where it hurt.
To cut an incredibly long story short, she has kicked him out and put his stuff in 6 black sacks. His sister in law came to my place of work this am and told me to take it all as a "present" from his wife. I was horrified and had to arrange for someone to take it all. Thankfully our mutual friend helped me out.
So now I am THAT woman who broke up a family. I can't imagine I will be accepted for a long, long time by any of his loved ones. Call me a whore, slut and Marriage-wrecker - I take it on the chin - but I'm not. I just fell head over heels for a man I consider to be the greatest love of my life. For the foreseeable future, I will be laying low; not hounding him and hoping to God, he is OK. Because at the end of the day he is a decent, kind and lovely man who fell in love with someone who wasn't his wife.
