Wow, this is a tough one. When they are born, and then while they go through their childhood, we find it hard to imagine them as adults, or even as teens. So when that day does come, it tends to catch us off guard, and makes us wonder where the time went, and how they got there so fast!

Teens are at an age where they aren't really "children", yet they aren't adults, either. They have more independence than they did as young children, and more ways of doing things and going places on their own than they did just a few short years before.

With today's technology (computers, cell phones, texting, etc.) and the movies and TV programs they have been afforded all their life, they grow up with far more knowledge and experience than those of us who grew up in the 60's through the 80's did. They are exposed to far more violence, sexual content in movies and books, as well as the things they see on the internet. So they do seem to grow up much faster than teens of the past did.

You can't slow down the clock on how fast they do grow, but as long as you give your child the guidance, love and teachings that they need to be responsible, good kids (teens), and adults when they reach that age, they will always know they can come to you with any problems they face in life, no matter how old they are.
