Thankfully most in society don't want to kill another human being, but, there are certainly a lower percentage that do and here are some reasons:

  • Killing makes some people feel in total control and is often an to anyone that gets in their way.
  • For insurance money.
  • Mob hits or gangs that are fighting over turfs or drug deals gone bad as well as stealing money from the mob or gang (the kiss of death!)
  • Psychopaths that appear by psychiatrists standards to have no moral standards or no remorse for what they do.
  • Many of the people that kill in cold blood do so because after the first time it gives them a thrill and they are out for more blood in most cases.
  • To some who kill (men kill more than women) it gives them a sense of power in a society where they feel they have been given no power, but they find the power in choosing their victims and killing them.
  • Killing because of race or profession (such as not liking Blacks, Chinese, Latino, etc. Also killing prostitutes or any woman that the killer feels is displaying sexual behavior in public.
  • Killing to gain power in a gang.
  • Some soldiers (especially after the Vietnam War) were pumped up to kill during training and a low majority found it difficult to stop killing when back in society.
  • Killing because they can and many get away with it.
  • Mental illness can cause some people to commit murder if they get into an argument with someone or, they will actually plan a cold blooded murder to get even with someone they don't like.
  • Killing for love. Some people (especially men) would rather kill their girlfriend or wife then see her leave the relationship. In others words, if he can't have her no one else will.
  • Killing in the name of religion. Some people (especially men) will take The Bible out of context and decide that the world is going to hell in a hand basket and that he doesn't want his family to suffer so he will kill his wife and children and most will kill themselves, but a small percentage don't.
  • Killing in cults. Jim Jones in Guyana is a prime example of starting out with a good idea of a Utopia, but losing his way because of drug use and ended up killing masses of people.
  • Some husbands (or wives) will kill their partner to be with another.
  • Some husbands will kill their wives because they may be business partners and he wants it all.
  • Group killing. Charles Manson is a good case. He got his followers to do the killings at his direction and wiped out Sharon Tate and her guests and then moved onto another family within a day. This is because he felt he was greater than God and believed that he could control the world. To this day this man sends shivers up the spines of even the most hardened of police officers or guards in the prison Manson is in.
  • Killing out of loneliness. Jeffry Dahmer was a good example. Although gentle in appearance and mannerisms he often felt lonely and in his twisted mind when he invited young men over to his apartment he'd kill them so they would stay with him always.

These are but a few reasons. The bottom line is, some people kill because they have no moral values. Scientists to this day study the more hardened murderers to see what makes them so different from us. Many scientists believe it's a missing gene or a gene that shouldn't be there (they haven't decided yet.) Some people kill by accident. An argument could ensue and a man (or woman) could push their mate and their mate could hit their head just right and die from it. This is not cold blooded or premeditated murder.

War is terrible time when one has to kill on order or to survive. Many soldiers (especially those with religious beliefs) find this a hard task and some would rather be arrested than kill.

Police officers having to kill is not an easy task for them. If they have no alternative, but to shoot someone then there is psychological counseling for them. It's a trauma to a police officer in most cases.
