In Fahrenheit 451, minority pressure is a cause of the burning of books. It most likely started with a few banned books. A book is a bit too racist? Ban it. A book makes a certain religion look bad? Ban it. Everyone must be pleased. So if a certain minority thinks that a book makes them look bad, they can contact the government and the book will be banned. Thats part of censorship(supressing media which may be considered objectionable to the general body of people.) So with more and more books getting banned, there were less books to read.
