Samson and Gregory are characterized as hot-headed, loyal, and obedient to their master, Lord Capulet. They are also shown to be impulsive and quick to engage in conflict, as seen in their verbal sparring with the Montague servants at the beginning of Romeo and Juliet.

Samson is a Capulet, or to be more accurate, he is a servant of the Capulets. He is not a member of the Capulet family, just someone who works for them.

Is Gregory a Montague of Capulet?

That is a bit more complicated than it seems. In the opening of Act I Scene i, both Gregory and Samson are listed as "of the house of Capulet". They discuss hating the Montaguesand how they will fight them. However, there is no mention that they are related to the Capuletsby blood and are most likely servants since they reference their "master" numerous times. So yes they are on the Capulet "team" but probably not Capuletsthemselves. There is another possible point of confusion however: When Gregory and Sampson are arguing with Abram (assumed to be of the house of Montague) they decide to finally start fighting because Gregory says, "Here comes my master's kinsmen." (I,i,52) What's confusing is that Benvolio,Romeo's cousin and of the house of Montague, has just entered. So it seems you have a Capulet claiming one of his master's kinsmen (Benvolio)is coming so they will have some back up, but Benvoliowould not have fought on their side because he is a Montague. It can be assumed, however, that Gregory's line actually refers to Tybalt, Juliet's cousin and a Capulet, who enters soon after Benvolioand that Gregory did not see Benvolio.

Why was romeo and Juliet familys name such a huge issue back then?

It was not the names as such, but what they represented. Most of the people in the play that fight because of the Montague/Capulet rivalry are not called Montague or Capulet. This includes Samson, Gregory and Abram, who start the fight in Act 1. They are servants, not members of the family. Tybalt says he hates all Montagues, but is his name Capulet? No it is not. His father is Lady Capulet's brother. It is more of a label for a gang than a family name: Tybalt's name is not Capulet, but he hangs with the Capulet gang; Mercutio's name is not Montague, but he hangs with the Montague gang. Disputes, feuds or wars between gangs or factions of one kind or another are of course something that has gone on forever and are still going on, and are not limited to "back then"

What are Gregory and Sampson talking about in romeo and Juliet?

Samson and Gregory are two Capulet servants; they are rather insignificant characters in the play. They are only seen in act 1 scene 1 where they cause a fight with some servants of the Montague house, possibly to portray the violence of the feud between the two families in the play.
