Postcolonial theory can be applied to Wide Sargasso Sea. The most important aspects of Postcolonial criticism such as: Othering, Eurocentrism, Canonical counter-discourse, hybridity and Unhomeliness are reflected in the novel. An example of Othering is reflected in the treatment of Christophine and Tia (Antoinette´s childhood friend). Eurocentrism establishes a distinction between the Colonizers, in the role of Mr. Rochester, and the Colonized, Antoinette and the native peoples of the place. The Canonical Counter discourse is reflected by Jean Rhy´s re-interpretation of Charlotte Bronte´s Jane Eyre. Jean Rhys said she wanted to explore the previous life of the woman in the attic at Thornfield Hall to justify her madness and give her literary justice. Hybridity is reflected by Antoinette as a mixture between two cultures belonging to the Creole native inhabitants and to her white origins. Unhomeliness is reflected in Antoinette´s feeling of not belonging in the place she is living.
