Atticus Finch got his first gun when he was a young boy, around the age of 10. It was his father's old gun, and he learned how to shoot and handle it responsibly at a young age.

Atticus's nickname at one time was One-Shot Finch because he can take out his target with a gun with only bullet like when he had to shoot the rabbid dog called Old Tim Johnson or something like that.
The children thought Atticus was too old because he did not participate in physical activities like their friends' fathers did, and his hair was turning grey. In addition, Atticus was more reserved and calm compared to the other fathers in the town.
