an unusual plot or dramatic device is making the lead character, on whom the entire story revolves- Nameless. We never learn the name of the Time Traveller. I do not believe Wells did this with his other Science Fiction novels- such as War of the Worlds or Invisible Man. by itself this lends itself to a sort of preachy style reminiscent of the Third person narrative ( He) of Caesar"s Gallic Wars, not what you want with science-fiction- by itself it tends to impede dialogue and ipso -facto Romance and love interest. that is one ususual aspect of the tale.- quite apart from the time travel odyssey.
