This is a description of Boo Radley. Boo Radley was one of the more different characters in the book To Kill a Mockingbird. Boo Radley, also known as Arthur Radley, was a very quiet person, who never really came out, at least when other people could notice him enough to really understand him. Most of the Maycomb neighborhood thinks he’s creepy because of all of the rumors spread around from him, and no one really knows him personally yet. You don’t really get a chance to get inside of his head in the book to really know what he’s thinking, but I bet that he would be very lonely and he’s trying to reach out for someone to love him or be his friend. Throughout the book, he had been very kind and generous, even really without coming out and making a scene. He placed the gifts in the knothole of the tree and when the kids were watching Miss Maudie’s house burn down, he placed the blanket on Scout’s shoulder, without anyone noticing him. No one in the neighborhood sees him throughout most of the book, until the end of the book, when he saves the Finch kids’ lives. When the family is in Jem’s room watching over him, after Mr. Ewell attacked the kids, Scout finally realizes who he really is. She describes him as being sickly white, with a thin mouth and hair and grey eyes, almost as if he was blind. The same night, Scout and Boo interact. He doesn’t talk much at all, and when he does, he’s very soft spoken and quiet. ““Will you take me home?” He almost whispers it, in a voice of a child afraid of the dark (278).” The only relationships he had with any of the characters in the book was with the Finch kids, which wasn’t really mutual until the night of the attack. Boo already knew that he loved the kids since he started placing the presents in the tree.
