king Phillips cave is a small cave located in simsbury Connecticut just off the metacomet trail. it lies on the top of talcott mountain in a steep talus rock grade, the cave has sweeping views of simsbury and the surrounding areas. the legend is that during king Phillips war of1675-6 that pokanoket Indian chief king phillip is said to have watched from the cave as his warriors ransacked and set fire to the town of simsbury burning it to the ground. although this story has been widely accepted and repeated new evidence points to the fact that king phillip himself most likely was not responsible for the razing of the town it was more likely a band of nipmuck Indians from the eastern part of the state that put simsbury to the torch.
